Picnic on the beach and bird watching at Fernandina

FERNANDINA BEACH -- At the top tip of Amelia Island, Fort Clinch State Park winds around heavily wooded areas and is surrounded on three sides by water.

It's the perfect place for a picnic, with several choices for staging one. Arrive by car, bicycle or boat - all can be accommodated.

On the beach: If you want to go to the beach, make the first right-hand turn off to the east, to the piers and beach areas on the Atlantic. They have showers and bathhouses here, a bird-watching exhibit with educational panels (lectures are given at times; check the park's schedule when you arrive) and a number of umbrella-shaded, wooden picnic tables along the boardwalk leading to the beach.

...it's great educational lectures are provided with birdwatching...
